LETS START FROM THE BASICS A figure of speech or rhetorical figure is figurative language in the form of a single word or phrase. It can be a special repetition, arrangement or omission of words with literal meaning, or a phrase with a specialized meaning not based on the literal meaning of the words. Figures of speech often provide emphasis, freshness of expression, or clarity. However, clarity may also suffer from their use, as any figure of speech introduces an ambiguity between literal and figurative interpretation. here are some figures of speech that we commonly come across 1. Alliteration : The repetition of an initial consonant sound. Example: She sells by the seashore. 2. Anaphora : The repetition of the same word or phrase at the beginning of successive clauses or verses. Example: Unfortunately, I was in the wrong place at the wrong time on the wrong day. 3. Antithesis : The juxtaposition of contrasting ideas in balanced phrases. Example: As Abraham Lin
